We want every customer to enjoy a safe, friendly and efficient experience. These Conditions of Entry help us protect our customers, our team and our facility while ensuring everyone can return their eligible containers safely. By entering the depot you agree to follow these Conditions of Entry.

Respect goes both ways. We will do our best to help you return eligible containers safely and efficiently, and we ask everyone entering the depot to help us keep the site safe, friendly and easy to use.

Customer responsibilities

How we keep the depot safe and welcoming

These conditions apply to everyone entering Sandgate Bottle & Can Exchange. They are here to support safety, staff wellbeing and a positive visit for every customer.

Respect our team

Our staff deserve to work in a safe and respectful environment.

Aggressive, abusive, threatening or intimidating behaviour towards staff or other customers will not be tolerated. Customers behaving in this manner may be asked to leave.

Respect other customers

Treat fellow visitors with courtesy and patience, particularly during busy periods.

Footwear

Footwear must be worn at all times while on site.

Because this is an operating industrial facility, enclosed footwear is strongly recommended.

Children

Children are always welcome. However, they must remain under the supervision of a responsible adult at all times.

Running around the depot, climbing on equipment or entering restricted areas is not permitted.

Noise

Our depot operates machinery throughout the day.

Customers who are sensitive to loud environments are encouraged to wear hearing protection. Hearing protection is available for children upon request.

Follow staff directions

Please follow any reasonable direction provided by our team regarding:

  • traffic flow
  • queues
  • container returns
  • safety
  • emergencies

Smoking and vaping

Smoking and vaping are not permitted inside the depot.

Alcohol and drugs

Anyone whose behaviour suggests they are under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs may be refused entry or service where safety may be compromised.

Unsafe behaviour

For everyone's safety please do not:

  • climb on machinery
  • enter staff-only areas
  • interfere with equipment
  • stand inside restricted operating areas
  • distract staff while machinery is operating

Photography and filming

Customers are welcome to take photos of their own visit.

Please respect the privacy of our staff and other customers. Commercial photography or filming requires prior approval.

Commercial customers

Commercial customers should follow unloading instructions provided by staff.

Large loads may require direction for everyone's safety.

Traffic and parking

Drive slowly, observe all signage and park only in designated areas.

Please be aware of pedestrians and forklifts.

Container quality

Only bring containers that are eligible under Queensland's Containers for Change scheme.

Containers that are unsafe, contaminated or otherwise unable to be processed may be refused.

Biohazards and contamination

Containers containing hazardous materials, chemicals, excessive mould, broken glass presenting a safety risk or other unsafe contamination may be refused.

Emergency situations

In an emergency please immediately follow staff instructions.

Safety and service

Right to Refuse Entry or Service

Our priority is providing a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for everyone.

To protect our customers, team members and facility, Sandgate Bottle & Can Exchange reserves the right to refuse entry or service to anyone who:

  • behaves in a threatening, abusive or aggressive manner
  • refuses to follow reasonable safety instructions
  • creates a risk to themselves or others
  • deliberately damages property or equipment
  • repeatedly ignores these Conditions of Entry
  • attempts to return unsafe or hazardous materials that cannot be accepted

Where appropriate, customers may be asked to leave the premises. The overwhelming majority of our customers are respectful and help us maintain a friendly, family-oriented environment every day.
