How it works

Save 300, receive your bins, then swap and repeat

The first collection gets your household set up. Every collection after that follows the same simple bin swap routine.

  1. Check your suburb

Home Collections are available in the 21 North Brisbane suburbs listed in the service area on this page.

  2. Start collecting

Collect at least 300 eligible containers. For your first collection, suitable bags, boxes or other containers are fine—you don’t need our bins yet.

  3. Have your Member Number ready

You’ll need a Containers for Change Member Number before your first collection so we can process your refund electronically.

  4. Book your first collection

Once you have at least 300 eligible containers, message 0499 699 295 and we’ll arrange your first Home Collection.

  5. We collect and set you up

We’ll collect and count your first return, process your refund, send your receipt and supply your free 240L bins at the same visit.

  6. Fill, swap, repeat

Fill every allocated bin, then message us. We’ll collect the full bins and swap them for clean, empty bins so you can start again.

On compatible mobile devices, the button opens a ready-to-edit SMS.

Free bins + simple bin swaps

We swap full bins for clean, empty bins

After your first collection, we’ll provide your household with dedicated 240L Home Collection bins. From then on, Home Collections operate as a bin swap service. When all of your supplied bins are full, message our team to arrange collection. We’ll take the full bins away and leave clean, empty replacement bins.

Your bins are provided free of charge and are for eligible Containers for Change drink containers only. We’ll work with you to determine whether 2, 4 or 6 bins best suits your household and collection volume, up to a maximum of 6 bins per household.

  • Empty containers before placing them in the bins.
  • Keep general rubbish out.
  • Keep food waste out.
  • Do not use the bins for normal household recycling.
  • Only place eligible Queensland Containers for Change drink containers in them.

What is the Home Collection Service?

How do I get started?

Check that your suburb is in our service area, collect at least 300 eligible containers and then message us on 0499 699 295. We’ll confirm your details, arrange your first collection and supply your Home Collection bins when we collect your first return.

Why do I need 300 containers for my first collection?

The 300-container minimum allows us to complete your first collection and supply your Home Collection bins during the same visit, helping us keep the service efficient.

Do you deliver the bins before my first collection?

No. Your free Home Collection bins are supplied when we complete your first collection. You’ll need at least 300 eligible containers ready before starting the service.

What can I use to store my first 300 containers?

You don’t need special bins for your first collection. Suitable bags, boxes or other containers are fine, provided your containers can be collected safely and easily.

How much do I receive?

You receive 7¢ for every eligible container collected through the Home Collection Service.

Why is the Home Collection refund 7¢ instead of 10¢?

The standard Containers for Change refund is 10¢ per eligible container. You receive 7¢, while the remaining 3¢ is the Home Collection service component that contributes to collecting and transporting your containers from home.

Does it cost anything to get the bins?

No. The 240L Home Collection bins supplied at your first collection are provided free as part of the service.

How many bins can I have?

We’ll work with you to determine whether 2, 4 or 6 bins best suits your household and collection volume. A maximum of 6 Home Collection bins can be supplied per household.

What happens to my bins when they’re full?

Home Collections operate as a bin swap service. When all of your supplied bins are full, we’ll collect them and leave clean, empty replacement bins.

Do I get the same bins back?

Will I get a receipt?

Yes. After your containers are collected and counted, we send an SMS with a secure link to your digital collection receipt. No app or Sandgate Portal account is required.

When should I request a collection?

For your first collection, message us once you have at least 300 eligible containers. Once you’re set up, request a collection when all of the Home Collection bins supplied to your household are full.

Can I request a collection with only one full bin?

Generally, customers should wait until all of their allocated bins are full before requesting a collection. The service is designed around collecting and swapping the household’s allocated bins together.

What can I put in the bins?

Only eligible Queensland Containers for Change drink containers should go in the supplied bins.

Can I use the bins for household recycling?
