Hotel container collections

Collections that work around your hotel

Guest rooms, bars, restaurants and functions can all produce 10c drink containers. We'll help connect those areas to one practical back-of-house collection routine without getting in the way of guests or service.

What your property receives

A collection setup that works back of house

Connect guest rooms, bars, restaurants and functions to a practical hotel collection point.

Full 10c refund

Hotels with an ABN or ACN, and registered charities, receive the full 10c for every eligible container.

Free bins and pickup

We recommend bins around housekeeping and service routines. Agreed ongoing bins and pickup are free for approved partners.

Call when nearly full

Message when the bins are around 90% full. Regular servicing can be considered later using real room, venue and function volumes.

Plan approved access

Tell us about loading docks, security, service windows and who moves containers from guest areas to storage.

One property, several teams

Make the routine clear for each department

A hotel collection works when housekeeping, food and beverage, functions and facilities each know their part. The external pickup can stay simple even when the internal journey has several starting points.

Housekeeping

Room attendants can separate suitable drink containers during normal room servicing.

Bars and restaurants

Service teams can collect empties where bottles and cans are already handled.

Functions

Event teams can plan temporary points and a clear pack-down routine.

Facilities and loading

The property team controls storage, loading access and the final pickup point.

Where containers come from

Connect guest-facing areas to back of house

Different hotel areas need different collection points, but they can feed into the same agreed storage location.

Guest rooms and minibars

Housekeeping can move eligible containers through the hotel's normal room-servicing process.

Bars and restaurants

Point-of-service separation can fit beside existing glass and waste routines.

Functions and conferences

Short peaks are easier to manage when collection and pack-down are planned before the event.

Staff areas

Lunchrooms and staff facilities can join the service with clear internal ownership.

How it can work

Several hotel streams, one pickup point

The hotel keeps control of guest areas and internal movement. We collect from the back-of-house point agreed with your property team.

  1. Map each source

List the room, venue, function and staff areas you want to include.

  2. Fit the team routine

Give each department a simple instruction that matches the work it already does.

  3. Consolidate back of house

Bring suitable containers to secure storage without blocking service routes.

  4. Arrange property access

Confirm the loading area, approved time and hotel contact for collection.

Keep service areas tidy

Separate drinks from food and room waste

Simple department-specific signs are more useful than one generic instruction for the whole hotel.

Examples of ineligible containers, including plain milk bottles, cask wine, coffee cups and large juice containers.

Keep these out

Food, coffee cups, room rubbish, toiletries, broken glass, general packaging and non-eligible containers.

Housekeeping checks

Keep room waste out as containers move onto trolleys or into back-of-house points.

Bar close-down

Use the venue's normal close-down to remove food, straws and other rubbish.

Function pack-down

Make one person responsible for closing temporary points after an event.

Secure storage

Keep the consolidated stream out of guest areas and clear of loading routes.

Your hotel setup

Plan around occupancy, events and access

Collection timing and storage need to suit your actual trading pattern. We'll also discuss bins, the refund destination and any useful reporting as part of the property arrangement.

Volume and peaks

Share normal occupancy plus major function or holiday periods that change the container stream.

Property access

Confirm loading instructions, inductions, security contacts and suitable collection windows.

Refunds

The hotel can agree how the recorded refund value is directed under its arrangement.

Hotels FAQs

Questions about hotel collections

Straight answers to common questions about setting up collections at a site like yours.

What do approved commercial collection partners receive?
Businesses with an ABN or ACN, and registered charities, receive the full 10c for every eligible container. Approved partners also receive their agreed ongoing bins and commercial pickup free of charge. Other organisations can contact the team to discuss their situation.
How do we start, and who chooses the bins?
Use the commercial collection enquiry and share your organisation, site, volume, storage, access and refund preference. Sandgate Bottle & Can Exchange recommends the bin setup. The account, Member Number, payment or donation pathway is confirmed during onboarding, and bin numbers or sizes can be reviewed as real volumes become known.
When will our containers be collected?
When you first start, message the team when the bins are around 90% full and we will organise the collection. Once enough collection history shows the site's normal volume and fill rate, regular servicing can be discussed if it would suit the site.
What if we already have a stockpile of eligible containers?
Mention it in the enquiry. The team will review the amount, storage and access, then explain the most practical way to handle the existing stockpile and the ongoing setup.
Can containers from guest rooms be included?
Yes, eligible containers can be included when housekeeping or another authorised hotel team moves them to the agreed back-of-house point. Our collectors do not need guest-room access.
Can bar and restaurant containers be collected?
Yes, if the venue separates eligible drink containers from food, glassware, cups and general rubbish before they reach storage.
How do housekeeping teams fit into the service?
The hotel decides how housekeeping identifies and moves suitable containers during room servicing. We can plan the final collection around that routine.
Can functions use temporary collection points?
They can where the property has a clear setup, pack-down and storage plan for the event.
Can you collect from the loading dock?
A loading-dock pickup may be possible where the property approves it and the access, security and timing details are workable.
